DISC Assesment

In class we conducted a leadership/management diagnostic is which we were given words and we would choose the ones that best and worst describe us. My result was (I) Infuence with a high (D) drive. I think the test accurately described my management orientation because after seeing the traits the D's, I's, S's and C's possess. I would say I and D are the 2 that most closely resemble my character. Some examples of traits that I have that I's possesss are enthusiastic omptimistic and talkative. Leaders of the (I) type are good at encouraging, motivating and have a sense of humor. I think this is the way I would manage as well. I don't wish I was another type because D and I define who I am and I wouldn't want to change that. I think people can go from one type to another as they get older and experience more in life. It would be helpful to determine peoples management type to better understand where they are coming from so you have a better idea of their personality and how they would act. A test like this would be helpful in the business environment when hiring a manager. You look for a certain type of person and you would have an idea of how a future manager would handle the job. Looking back at the winter survival scenario we discussed in class (stranded) for that activity I think it would be best to have a (C) compliant leader because that type of leader usually careful analytical and tries to make the best decision possible based on the facts.

  1. I was actually in a high D to I. I am happy with my result too. I think it pretty much described who I am too. I also agree that people can go from one type to another as they get older, because you can't just be a one type of person. I also said that C type of leader will be the best fit for the winter survival. I think he/she will be aware of the circumstances and find the best solution.

  2. I guess people with similar results from this test also have similar thoughts. Your thoughts on this topic are very similar to mine and I also was an "I" but with a split between D and C. Though I have not known you too long, From what I have seen so far, I believe that that this test also hit the nail on the head for you. Pretty scary stuff.

  3. It is interesting that i have the exact same opinion as the first comment. And I am happened to be a C typed person. I think that C typed people are best for finding the best solution for the Winter Survival game because he or she could think analytically and weight the pros and cons before making a decision. On the other hand, if you were the leader of other types it may put your team in the bad spot.

  4. I think many more factors have to be considered. What if the high D leader also happened to be a Navy Seal who has had survival training? Then he would have the necessary characteristics to push his point of view across to everyone. So as long as the person knows what they are doing in a chaotic situation (plane crash), a high D wouldnt be that bad.

  5. After working on 2 experiments with you, I have you agree that i think you are more of a I high D, cause you always like to speak out your opinion, helpful or not. you just like to be heard, though you aren't too dominating, probably why you have the I and high D. But i think sometimes you should work on your other traits, like being more organized. It might help you one day.
